<p>Calorie balance matters most in losing weight USA TODAY&#8217;s article &#8220;<a href="http://www.usatoday.com/news/health/weightloss/2008-07-17-diet-wars_N.htm">Low-carb plan tops in study</a>&#8221; reported that dieters who followed a low-carbohydrate diet lost and kept off about 12 pounds over two years, losing more than others on a Mediterranean or restricted-fat diet (Life, July 17).</div>

<p>The <a href="http://content.nejm.org/cgi/content/full/359/3/229">findings</a>, reported in the <em>New England Journal of Medicine</em>, were the result of a study led by Meir Stampfer, professor of medicine at Harvard&#8217;s <a href="http://www.channing.harvard.edu/stampfer.htm">Brigham and Women&#8217;s Hospital</a> in Boston.</p>
<p>Stampfer said, &#8220;It takes a long time to lose weight, so you have to choose a diet that you can stick with for the long haul.&#8221;</p>
<p>Surely, it would have benefited more dieters to expand on this salient advice as opposed to providing details on a study that unwittingly promotes the &#8220;good food vs. bad food&#8221; wars, which lead to constant confusion, frustration and weight loss failure for most Americans.</p>
<p>As a lifestyle and weight management consultant, I believe that significant and lasting weight loss is achievable when you reject imbalanced dieting behavior and instead choose a personalized and comprehensive weight management solution that complements your lifestyle.</p>
<p>The most dependable and controllable law of weight management is that calorie balance will ultimately determine whether we lose, gain or maintain pounds.</p>
<p>Regardless of the calories&#8217; source — carb, fat, or protein — it is the effective balancing of calories that matters most.</p>
<p>Sustainable balancing of calories for lasting weight loss requires a solution that is effective, flexible and enjoyable.</p>
<p>While the diets followed in this study might be considered moderately effective for losing weight, they fall short on providing the freedom and pleasure necessary to achieve significant and lasting weight loss.</p></div>

Balance Diet Book.  You know how much I adored Chapter 1.  But wait, Chapter 2 really hit home with me!!!  It&#8217;s all about rejecting diet fantasies.  And check this out&#8230;the chapter is about a person named RACHEL!  OMG!  It was like Divine Intervention speaking out to me and giving me a HUGE reality check!</span></p>

<p><span style="color:#800080;">First I saw myself in the pages of this chapter.  The author really understands what I face when it comes to searching out that quick dieting fix.  He clearly explains what I have been needing to hear &#8211; what weight loss reality is all about.  No more delusions, gimmicks and fads that don&#8217;t work!  There is easy, fun to read and sound advice in this book.  Where has it been all my life?</span></p>
<p><span style="color:#800080;">Hey, you know what???  This book is really going to save me money!  I just realized that with every gimmick and fad that I tried, I dumped truck loads of money into the diet industry, then purchased new clothes to fit my new svelte size, then gained the weight back again only to go out and buy MORE clothes to fit my now much bigger size.  Each time I gained the weight back, I added even more pounds on!  UGH!  I couldn&#8217;t even fit into my old &#8220;fat&#8221; clothes.  What a vicious cycle!</span></p>
<p><span style="color:#800080;">Thank you F.A.T. Balance Diet for your sound advice!  The best part about the advice, is that it was written just for me!  This is the first book I have read that I can actually identify with.  There is no lecturing going on here.  The author knows what my struggles are and the best way to face them!</span></p>
<p><span style="color:#800080;">I can&#8217;t wait to get to Chapter 3!  I feel so amazing about this change in my life!</span></p>

<p>How are you feeling today.  I feel great.  I am still digesting (no pun intended) the first chapter of F.A.T. Balance Diet, 10 Steps to Weight Loss Freedom.  Gina &#8211; the character in the book is a real hoot!  I can relate to her on many levels.  I am thrilled with this first chapter as it really has got me motivated to doing what I need to do for my body&#8230;Today</p>

<p>I am just about to dive into Chapter 2.  But before I do so, I wanted to tell you that I saw that the United States isn&#8217;t the #1 fattest nation anymore.  The Aussie&#8217;s down under are.  I don&#8217;t know if we should be proud of that since we ARE a close second!  I know I am going to make changes and stick to it for my health and for the health of my children.  I plan to lead by example this year.</p>
